In fact, body language has a fast result on both the mood
and to the impression that one can give to other people. Since it’s easy and
effective, every leader should at least adopt the following body language tips
I researched on the internet to appear more confident, competent, approachable
and sociable to the people around them.
1.) Smiling Affects the Morale in a Positive Way.
Every member in a team or in an organization, people look
for someone for motivation and inspiration. If the team members found out that
their leader is distressed, they too will feel the depression and can affect
the working condition of the organization. So the first thing to learn in how
to communicate through body language is by smiling.

Smile even if you are unhappy or down. Nothing will
happen if you just frown or get badly depressed over something. Research and
studies show that by smiling, it can make
your mood positive and can also affect everyone around you. There is
nothing wrong when smiling when you are down and needs to be motivated. If you
force yourself to smile eventually the very act of smiling will cause your
brain to cheer you up! Not only you but your team as well since a happy team
will always be productive.
2.) Opening your Arms
By letting people know that you are an approachable
person, they can feel that you will listen to their reports, give you updates,
state problems, and consider their ideas and more. Of course, if they found out
that you are too serious about things, they might find you intimidating.
Besides smiling, using an open body language is the
easiest way to seen as approachable. Remove that crossed arm habit and remove obstacles
that make the communication hard. Think of how intimidating a boss would be
when he glares at you and his arms crossed on his chest. A leader should at
least avoid that.
3.) Chest out, Stomach in, Head held High
Proper posture can make an appearance that you have the
confidence on what you are doing, charismatic, and show that you are in control.
Even f you are not a charismatic or has high confidence, it could give out the
air that you have those traits. This important especially when talking to your
team or to your clients. Just like smiling, research shows that just being in a
good posture, it could boost a person’s self
esteem or confidence.
4.) A Good Eye Contact Tells it All
“Look someone in the eye if you are talking to them.” If
you heard this from your teacher, they are probably right. Establishing a good
eye contact can mean that you are sincere with your words, it could also be a
factor that the people you look directly in the eye can see you as attractive
and likeable. According to a journal, “Nature”, eye contact makes us feel
even better when they look our way.
Eye Contact is a very powerful tool
in communication especially in being a leader. Of course, with a proper
emotion with the eye in the right time, right situation and place can be a
crucial factor in making a good eye contact.
So if you want to start being a better leader, you can
start now by smiling, standing up straight, open your arms
and establish a good eye contact. This could be the cheapest and easiest way to
become a good leader, boost your confidence and to improve your leadership.
