If the prospect of work no longer excites you, maybe because you landed yourself in a dead-end job. But everything has a solution so don't lose hope. Try these five reviving strategies to get out of career rut.
1.) Don't be afraid to ask
There will be no challenge if you are stuck doing the things that you already do everything to the point that you mastered it. You may have unwittingly given others the impression that you are very much content about your position because you really never spoken how you feel about your job. Now is the time to let your superior that you are ready and willing to take on more challenging role and some real responsibility. Bigger role and responsibility may just be the thing to pump you up again. Of course, taking this move will surely make management give you a long second look.
2.) Extend Yourself
Sometimes, the reason that we are placed in a real boring days is we our self. Of course, this is a choice we made. But why? Maybe because we are afraid to leave our comfort zone? Or have you become complacent on the job? That is not how it should be. Become more initiative! Volunteer for high-profile projects and activities in the company. Brush up your skills and develop them. Keep reinventing yourself. Do not allow yourself to be left out in both the career build up and the self-improvement department.
3.) Hone your Skills in a Coveted Job
Perhaps one of the reason why promotions keep on missing you is because you lack the skills needed for a certain higher position. Find out what qualities are required for the job you are eyeing. If you need more technical knowledge, there are lots of place and books to give you some night studies to get the know-how and, more important, the certification to back up that know-how. In that way, the committee will have no problem to question your capabilities.
4.) Make a Lateral Move
It may seem a circuitous route to the top, but it might just not work. If movement in your department has all but stopped, try a sideways move to escape the rut you are about to feel or feeling already. Keep your ears sharp for more promising openings elsewhere within your company. It may mean staying in the same job level, receiving the same salary, but might offer more terms of challenges, responsibilities, training, peers, and of course, prospects for promotion.
5.) Not Really Working? Leave
If you think you have tried everything and nothing really seems to be working, your best action may simply to move on. Some things just don't work out, through no fault of your own. Your boss may just be blind to your strengths. Or there is really no room for more at the top. Or maybe, you are just in a wrong job at the wrong time. If you know you are no longer happy in your job, it is best to take whatever concrete step is necessary to help yourself.
