5 Easy Ways to Protect your Social Media Accounts

Have you heard or read the news about a certain famous personality's Instagram account has been hacked? Well, we heard or read about it all the time. The point is, no one is safe from those hacker. Lately, I've been hearing and reading stories that they their account has been hacked and for whatever reason they have. For famous people, it can mean that they might lose supporters. And that is a bad, bad thing. How about for us regular people? Are we safe? Sadly no, because there are people who will use your identity to fool or extort some money from the people we love. Which can be really bad too. So, how can we protect our Social Media Accounts from hackers?

1.) Change Passwords Regularly

It doesn't have to be daily, which can be a pretty inconvenient thing to do. But you can change it, let's say, about after two months or at least a month. At least we can know that we can be safe even after we logged out of a public computer right? And another thing is that, make sure you don't save your password when a browser asks you if you want the browser to remember both your email address and your password for future use. It might give you a little work in a long run, but it's better be safe than sorry right?

2.) Anonymous Links

A friend might give it to you, or they might comment, tag you a link, but when it is shortened, be wary of it. They might have fallen into a same tactic where when a person clicks on a link and open it, the chances are, the link they have clicked have spywares on it that can download itself to your system without you noticing it. So before clicking that link, ask what is it and wait for a reply. I know it can be tempting, but you have to make sure that your account is protected.

3.) Don't add or Accept People You Don't Know

Just because they are good looking or looks like a good person, that doesn't mean that they are the one on the picture. We have something we call as "posers" where they use the picture of other people to lie or make that person look like the bad person. People have the means to do that, and sometimes, they don't even know if they are hurting other people.

4.) Uninstall Unused Applications

Sometimes, some applications get inside or gets installed on it's own without us noticing. Either because of some online applications or sites that we wanted access too. Just last year, I bought a new computer that I am using right now. Because it has no strong firewall or antivirus and anti-spyware program installed, my browser didn't detect that single virus that crept it way to my system. The result, ads everywhere and the battle for it was long and heavy. But just last month, I was able to successfully remove everything with manual and automatic deletion from my anti-spyware and antivirus application.

How I did it? I remove every application that was installed by itself and deleted everything it might have on my computer. It was very taxing and frustrating because even if you think that everything is finished, when you open your computer again, it's back and and you have to do the process again. So make sure you uninstall the applications or software that you don't need anymore or you don't know when you installed it.
